The Washington Commanders are off to a phenomenal start to the 2024 ~ 2025 NFL Season,
sitting atop the NFC East at a record of 5 wins and 2 losses. Their newfound superstar Jayden Daniels and their long rebuild have proved to be useful, and many believe they are Super Bowl contenders.
The Washington Commanders were a dismal franchise in recent years. The Commanders have not won more than 10 games since 2012, a depressing decade. However, they are currently 5-2 and on pace for approximately 12 wins. Their biggest reason for this improvement? Their new quarterback, Jayden Daniels.
“Daniels has been simply sensational for Washington. He has not only stepped into the QB1 role and had immediate success, but also set records along the way.” NFL draft analyst Jordan Reid said on ESPN’s rookie rankings.
Jayden Daniels currently has over 1400 yards passing, and over 350 yards rushing. His adjusted quarterback rating, which determines how good of a passer he is, is a phenomenal 73.8, second only to Bills superstar Josh Allen. He is expected to be the offensive rookie of the year.
“Daniels is operating [The Commanders] offense masterfully, using his legs and talented arm to propel the Commanders to new heights.” According to Nick Shook on NFL.com.
Daniels has breathed new life into Washington, leading their offense as a play caller and a playmaker. He was the missing part the Commanders needed to hit it big, and Daniels was the biggest reason why the Commanders led the NFL in points per game up to week 7, connecting with receivers Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown time and time again for scores.
John Keim, an ESPN writer said that “After six games, the Washington Commanders know they have something for the first time in ages that can help them win games: a quarterback. Now what they need is a consistent defense to provide that same belief.”
His stellar performance was highlighted by an electric 52 yard hail mary pass to win the game versus the Bears. Daniel’s explosiveness has Commanders fans optimistic that they can win games this season. Washington’s odds to win the Super Bowl is 11th place, a huge improvement from last year.
Griffin H, a Commander’s superfan and student of Frost, said that “Washington hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1991 with Hall of Famers like Art Monk and the legendary O-line. I’ve watched Washington since 2016 and I’ve only seen one playoff appearance and it was a loss to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.”
Hopefully we can make the playoffs and draft more talent to become a real contender for the Superbowl, Griffin said. Only time will tell whether the Commanders will live up to the expectations.
