On January 12 and 13th, Frost’s Model United Nations (MUN) team took part in Chantilly High School’s conference, CHMUN. CHMUN was a two day conference with 4 middle school committees and 16 high school committees.
This was Frost’s MUN Team’s 2nd conference and they had 32 delegates attending. The conference went from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening, with delegates coming from all over the Northern Virginia area.
Evelyn Z. and Steven N. won a Verbal, Arya D. and Crystal H. won an Honorable, Masoom K. and Amanda O. Gaveled, Gigi M. won a Verbal, Pravin B. received a Verbal, and Isha S. won an Outstanding.
Masoom K. said, “CHMUN was an amazing experience which I enjoyed because I was successful, but I believe that it could have been better managed by the chair.”
Delegates debated topics such as reducing energy poverty in developing nations and invasive species in the big committees, while delegates in the smaller committees talked about the effects of fast fashion on the environment, working conditions in the fashion industry, and a lightbulb cartel with some interesting events happening in it.
“CHMUN had a variety of committees, each with their own unique topic. Whether or not you were dealing with an election for a secret committee, or debating on fashion designs. It was a fun conference nonetheless.” Pravin B. commented.
Overall, the Frost MUN team had a great time at the conference and gained more experience and knowledge with and about MUN. Currently, the Frost MUN leaders are working on something big and the team will attend at least one more conference before the end of the year.
