Appreciating Mrs. Patterson: A Wonder to the World

Appreciating Mrs. Patterson!

Frost Middle School, home to many amazing teachers, is recognizing a special one today: orchestra teacher Mrs. Patterson. She has taught orchestra at Frost for four years, becoming a favorite teacher to many students. “She is helpful and is always willing to work with us when there’s a hard part in a piece,” said Sagan K., violinist in Chamber Orchestra.

Although several look up to her, Mrs. Patterson has a few role models of her own.

“My parents have always served as role models for me, they’re very resourceful, dependable, and active in the community. My musical role models were certain colleagues that I respect and admire, they helped me learn and grow a lot throughout my career.”

Inspiring violinists, violists, cellists and bassists, Mrs. Patterson started off by learning how to play the piano when she was five years old.

A little later on, she found interest in the violin. “My great grandfather had played the violin, I thought it sounded pretty and we had a violin in the attic, I’m so glad I stuck with it,” she said.

“My playing has been positively impacted from being in her class because Mrs. Patterson’s very helpful and the way that she plays helps me understand how to improve,” said Sydney H., bassist and violist in Symphonic Orchestra.

Teaching four levels of orchestra ranging from Concert (beginning) level and going all the way up to Chamber (most advanced), she is a hard working teacher with a lot on her hands! Nonetheless, Mrs. Patterson always manages to care for her students.

“I love teaching middle school because I get to work with students more than I would in elementary. I can take them from where they are and improve their playing dramatically. In high school, you have longer, but I just prefer to see that big dramatic change in ability in middle schoolers,” she said.

Orchestra is a fun space for many; students enjoy improving their playing skills but also hanging out with friends.

The kind hearted and bright orchestra teacher at Frost Middle School is always uplifting, starting classes with her daily memes, and helping out all the time. “Mrs. Patterson is a wonder to the world,” Lucie W., cellist in Chamber Orchestra said. We appreciate all of her efforts, and thank her for continuously making orchestra classes something to look forward to.

Thank you Mrs. Patterson!
