SOMBR has really made a name for himself. SOMBR, whose real name being Shane Boose, hasn’t stopped hitting charts for some time now. Shane has hit the top 20 in the Billboard 100, Billboard Global 200, and other Billboard miscellaneous charts, for many of his songs.

Shane started making music when he was around 11and released his first song in 2021, ‘nothing left to say’, and has been non-stop ever since. In December of 2024 Shane released ‘Back to friends’ which immediately trended on many platforms, is still on Billboard’s charts to this day and rocket launched him into mainstream music. Continuing the success of his debut single, he released ‘Undressed’ in March of 2025. This song ALSO topped all social media platforms and Billboard charts.
SOMBR recently released his debut album ‘I Barely Know Her’ in August. Being a 10 song album, ‘I Barely Know Her’ made the Billboard top 200 peaking at No. 10, and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Album charts.
Now knowing more about Shane’s music, it brings up the question: how did Shane get into music? Shane grew up in the Lower Eastside of New York City. He grew up in a family that was very instrumental, and was introduced to music at a young age. In middle school he started trying to make his own music, self producing if you would. Once COVID-19 hit, it let him focus on music even more, and he turned his bedroom into his own recording studio. He then attended LaGuardia High School, majoring in vocals. SOMBR was able to grow a little bit of a following by posting snippets of himself singing on Tiktok throughout this process. Eventually he released his song ‘Caroline’ that ended up being a successful song online. This success led him to drop out of high school to focus on making music.
While SOMBR has been on tour, he has gotten even more recognition for the connection he has with the crowd. I personally would love to go to one of his concerts not just because I love his music but also because of his stage presence. He has lots of funny clips from his concerts that go trending with the crowd. Sometimes he’ll take someone from the crowd to come up on the stage to tell everyone about a crazy relationship they’ve been through. He shows a love of performing that you don’t see from many artists on tour these days. At the end of his concert, he jumps in with the crowd and sings the last song with everyone. The environment is something so amazing to see online that you feel you have to witness it in person.
Something I find ironic is that Shane completely manifested his future in his song ‘perfume’, saying “I’ll be going mainstream, and you’ll be on a small screen.” I have to say SOMBR fully deserves all the fame and recognition he is getting. I would also say SOMBR has such a wide vocal range and is able to sing in so many different genres. People say that Shane saved the music industry, and I completely agree. He has proven how hard he has worked to get here, and I hope he only goes up from here. I would give SOMBR’s music a 10/10.
