Three Great Reads by Raina Telgemier

Childhood can be tough. Just ask Raina Telgemier. She has three graphic novels based on her childhood. Smile is based on her teeth problems during middle school and through high school. Smile is very relatable, with love drama, school drama, friend drama, and the whole plot, teeth drama. Smile is something I read throughout elementary school. I was able to reread it over and over again.

After Smile, the sequel Sisters came out and it was about Raina going on a road trip with her family and her bond with her sister. Being an older sister of 4, I know how it feels to be the one having to look out for your siblings. The book is good for teens and children.. Also, unlike the first book, the story takes place within two weeks, and the first book takes place for almost several years..

A couple years later Raina surprised the world with a third book, Guts. A story about young Raina and her stomach aches and anxiety. When she was young she got a stomach bug and she kept puking. Her stomach hurt for a long time and she feared the word puke or throw up. She thought something was wrong with her. The story is all about anxiety and how she overcame it. Having something similar during 4th grade, I related to this story very strongly. I think it’s good for children who are going through things like this.

I encourage you to read all of these books.
